Ruby-crowned Kinglet, at the mini-mall in Harrison today at lunchtime. Don't think we have one on the list yet...

Good find. Ive been casually starting to look at the list to see what's missing. Ruby-crowned Kinglet was one higher up on the missing bird list! There has to be a Redhead someplace. Cheam Lake is frozen with not much open water aside from what the swans keep open. Wilband Creek Park have some open water? There's often one there. Maybe the open water needs more attention (Fraser and Harrison River, Harrison Lake etc) to find one. Im sure we'll get a Merlin before the month is out. Gyrfalcon. Usually one shows up in East Chilliwack but they are uncommmon. Bet a Ring-billed Gull will be in the mall parking lot in Chilliwack. I seem to see them there more than anywhere else in the area. Maybe I will have to take a drive past Hope for an American Crow! Ill leave it at that...it is only 8 species to the target 100.

Hi, Gord.
I've been following the monthly challenge reports, but only casually. However, this morning I took a closer look at the list when you mentioned that you need only one more species to bring it to 100.
On Jan 12 when we did the gulling in the rain we checked the sandbar in the Fraser between Hatzic and Sumas Mtn, and while there we saw seven Western Grebes on the river in the distance near Hatzic.

Okay, Dave, 101. Has Northern Harrier really not been seen in January? I had a flyover of a male harrier, a new species for my yard list, on Jan 14.

On Sunday, Ron and I went out to McDermott Rd. in search of the Eurasian Collared Doves. We didn't see them, but did find 2 male Ring Necked Pheasants in a corn field. Sue

hello birders this morning was a good morning of birding; as far as the list goes. while at work doing a bird survey there were 2 ring-billed gulls near the rail road crossing on hargitt rd in the matsqui flats area. as i was leaving this area, at the corner of hargitt rd and bell rd, there was an orange-crowned warbler, loosely hanging with juncos and golden-crowned sparrows. on my way home i went through the sumas prairie area looking for flocks of blackbirds to see if i could find a brown-headed cowbird or rusty blackbird; no luck with blackbirds, but did find 2 mourning doves perched on a wire on mcdermott rd. good find on the pine grosbeak, gord!

Good stuff Jason! Good to hear you're doing some bird work (and finding Orange-crowned Warblers!)
Thanks to Neepgrin and the Snow Goose, we're up to 105 species. Id say that's not too bad!
