In my travels I checked out a few flocks of gulls happily going after the worms after last night's rain. Lots of Ring-billed Gulls and a few California and Mew Gulls showing up. Couldnt find a Western Gull. Have to be extra careful as now they're in moult and a head without streaks is not as helpful anymore. Looks like the winter of 2008/09 will be without seeing a Glaucous Gull or my Leafs holding the Cup. I had more hopes on the former.

At Mom and Dad's feeders the White-throated Sparrow was hanging in there. Beautiful bird.

It's been a busy week. Got back to the lagoon at 5 PM today and found the LONG-TAILED DUCK female out in the bay towards the government dock. No Horned Grebe so it is a good thing I saw it off Rendall Park on Monday. It could have been there today but there was a stiff wind and the lake was very rough.

The dark phase Rough-legged Hawk was in Sumas Prairie. No luck on the Slaty-backed Gull. Very few gulls about at the transfer station

This morning the Western Meadowlarks were still singing merrily away at the south end of Tuyttens Rd., as they have been each time I've gone down there for about a month.
Although Brent has already noted the N.P. Owl for the month of March, I had a new one at the north part of Seabird Island at noon on March 4th.

Just got back from my regular Harrison Hot Springs walk. Saw the HORNED GREBE off shore at the east end of the lagoon today and even got a photo but not the LONG-TAILED DUCK. Go figure!
Here is how it looked today with daylight savings time starting tomorrow:

The geese were feeding on something along the outer edge of the lagoon. Maybe gravel or weed seeds. Too bad I lingered so long in the coffee shop and then got to walk in the snow storm.
