Early this morning I did a little walk at the Hope Airport. At the southwest corner a sparrow flew up and something looked a bit different from the Savannah Sparrows. Fortunately it landed on a low shrub and I was quickly pleased that I got out of bed early this morning as I was now looking at a Grasshopper Sparrow. I managed some photos as well that I'll share later. Cool bird and second one for our area (the other was also at Hope Airport). These guys are not common even in the best habitats in the interior of BC. They're more common in the Prairie Provinces.

Thanks guys Here's the photos I managed. One that shows the head shape the best was out of focus. It did not sit long before going back down into the grass again but luckily I got a good look and some pictures. Sometimes birding is a game of seconds!

Excellent bird for the valley Gord. Coincidentally one was found over at Piper Spit on Burnaby Lake a couple of days ago as well. That bird was uncharacteristically tame and allowed a close approach making for good photo op's.

Great work Gord, I'm glad you were up early as well, I have only heard them singing and not that well either. Hope you got into Cook's Marsh if not email me again. Denis
