Here is another query. Is this a Mallard drake in eclispe plumage or could it possibly be something more exotic I took this picture, again, at Tunkwa Lake, while I was kayaking in a sheltered bay right at the campsite. There was a family of almost full grown Mallard in the area, also lots of juvenile Coot, one male Canvasback in full color and a couple of sets of Red Neck Grebe, each with one very large youngster who hadn't given up on having mom or dad feed him. I was poking along right at the edge and spotted this guy under the overhanging shrubs. It didn't act at all 'mallard like'. Was very quiet and after I took this photo it glided a bit further away from me, still keeping right against the bank and under the shrubs. Apart from it's behavior, I'm wondering about that olive coloured bill - It's probably just a Mallard....but I think it is a neat picture anyway, almost monochrome - it would make a neat jig saw puzzle! Forgot to mention when I first saw this picture, Kathy, but great shot! The colours and reflection work very nicely.
Probably a moulting mallard drake?
