I am going to up-load the "other" shot--see if this helps--hope it does not "muddy" the waters--as it is a bit fuzzy--however--if those ARE eye-bars--then Flycatcher? This is the sharpest I could get it--as, again, it was quite high up---Al

Hey Al! I like that heron peeking around the pole! You managed some pictures of a red-eyed vireo. As you noticed, they are fond of the upper canopy and, while Ive seen them lower down, have never caught them in the camera! Nice work. You captured and observed some good fieldmarks on the species as well. They do act similar to kingbirds and flycatchers. One could almost say they are a little of both with the thicker beak but smaller size and colour of a small flycatcher.

Thanks for the ID, Gord. As you can see, I am still rather a neophyte where it comes to the different species. While growing up back east, I spent most of my time observing birds in the open, and not really searching for them in the forest, woods. A lot of this is new to me, but since my visiting here, I have picked up an enormous amount from all the posting members! ;D ;D Thanks again for the ID--will be posting more--hoping for a "rarity" --although there are plenty new to me. Especially like the pics where the colours as well as the identifying marks and clarity of the picture of the bird itself are there!---Al (also learned how to date/time and add a signature as well! ;D)
