Found this Sandpiper among the Leasts in a field on Saturday. Sorry for the blurry picture. It either has very muddy legs or black legs - meaning not a Least. Other ideas? Dave

Sort of has a semipalmated look to it with the grayish-brown tones. That would be my guess based on the picture. Did it stand out among the leasts body colour wise?

Thanks, Gord.
Yes, it seemed different than the Leasts. I remember thinking it was a touch bigger (longer body). I remember that the Tail/wings seemed to stick out the back a ways.
Dave
P.S. Perhaps the peep would like to take advantage of the ad above to remove its spider vein problem. I guess google thinks its muddy legs need to become smooth. As per a previous posting, I find the ads quite the hoot!

Hahaha, I love the ads that appear trying to match the post too. I guess it figured you were discussing some sort of mud pack you were putting on your legs. Sure sounds like a semipalmated, Dave. Nice work.

Dave, I bounced this one off a vetern birder who knows the peeps very well. He says Baird's which didnt enter my mind even though the long wing projection you mentioned should have. The black spots on the wings are easier to see when one starts to think Baird's too. ;D

Thanks Gord for asking about the shot. Baird's definitely crossed my mind as a possibility, hence the posting.
Thanks,
Dave
