This one I need help with. When we were canoeing on Leighton Lake which is in Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park we spotted this bird. There were actually 3 of them. What are they? As you can see from the last photo they do raise a crest on the head. They always kept their backs to us so never did see the breast to see if it was clear or stripped. The obvious ID is a Savannah Sparrow, but there were also Savannah Sparrows in the same area (and Song Sparrows). These birds just didn't act like the Savannah Sparrows. Here are some Savannah Sparrow photos, taken at the same time, same place, for comparison. Any suggestions Kathy

Hi Kathy. Sweet pictures as always! Those sparrows are savannah sparrows. One cool thing I noticed (I noticed this recently on these guys) is you got the strong notched tail this species has. The nice facial streaking, faint yellow over the eye and so forth are clearly shown too. Thanks for sharing!!
