Crows!

At certain times of the year, and especially around this time of the year, we see vast amounts of crows flying over in the late afternoon. They come from the direction of Agassiz or possibly Chilliwack and head up into the mountains to the west of the Chehalis Estuary. Sometimes the stream of them goes on for an hour. Usually they are very high up, but this afternoon I had my little old dog out for a quick walk around the complex and noticed all these crows down really low....then as I watched they did a loop and settled down in all the trees right by the viewing platform at Eagle Point park. I wish I'd had my camera with me. I also hope this isn't going to become a regular happening because I don't think it will be very popular with the non bird lovers in the area (or even some of the bird lovers)!

Kathy, I wonder if these are the same large flocks of crows Ive seen locally. I assume they're going to roost somewhere in that direction. I didnt think they'd go that far!
I think they have favoured roosts they use. There's one in Burnaby near the school I went to that had thousands going there every night.

Grandview Hwy and Boundary Rd. in Vancouver has always amazed me by how many crows hang out there. I always assumed it was the Wendys on the courner. ;D But seriously, Marion and I have friends on 41st. and take this exit when we visit. On New Years eve we went in and there must have been thousands within a block or two.

There must be a large roost near 16th Ave., between 256th and 264th in S. Aldergrove. The sky is black with thousands of crows every evening at dusk. Quite the sight to see! - Pat

It's hard enough to protect majestic creatures such as Bald Eagles. When it comes to Crows, a bird many consider unpleasant, it's a real uphill battle to protect them or their needs. Pat, I expect there must be several roosts in the valley where 'local' crows, who spend their day in a certain radius, roost. I wasnt aware of one in that area but no doubt there is one! Actually, I remember there being one in Chilliwack downtown until it was cut down for development. But perhaps that was a starling roost.
