I incorporated a bit of birding into my afternoon errands. I first started on Cannor Road off Yale Rd in west Chilliwack to view a large flock of swans I saw earlier in the day from the highway. I counted 213 Trumpeter Swans and about 20 Tundra Swans. One of the Trumpeter Swans had a collar (#14UK) for research. One of the Tundra Swans had a considerable amount of yellow on its bill suggesting a possible Bewick's Swan. I did not have my scope and it was further out so I was not able to get good views. It may be a tundra with maximum yellow but a closer look is worthwhile. Two years ago there was a Bewick's Swan not far from this area. www.bcbirding.proboards3.com/index.cgi?board=identification&action=display&n=1&thread=864My travels took me to Rosedale (not far enough for E. Collared Doves ) and I scanned several good flocks of gulls. Nothing exciting there. One place worth keeping an eye on is on Chilliwack Central just east of Annis Road. There is a long hedgerow of holly trees here. I counted over 40 American Robins but suspect there were many more. Just the place for some great thrush (Ahem, Fieldfare...Dusky Thrush... ) to show up. Taking a walk here could be quite productive even though the road could be a bit wider and quieter. Not a bad hour and a bit of birding from the car.

Gord: Thanks for the report. I will especially check out that area east of Annis on Chilliwack Central, the next time I head in to Chilliwack. Cheers, Thor
