Hi-Last December in our store newsletter, we asked customers to let us know if they were feeding Anna's. Anyways we had 20 customers who fed last year in Abbotsford. . App. between 40-50. My dad had 5 feeding in the Jan. cold snap. Many set up lights under their feeders to keep the solution from freezing. So far this year we have had 6 customers feeding in Abbotsford and 3 in Chilliwack but we have not put out a newsletter asking for counts yet.

Hi Cliff, I am in Abbotsford and I am feeding the Anna's...i have quite a few coming to the front and back feeders right now...there is no shortage of them at my place and see them fighting and chasing each other away.....The lights worked well for them in the cold snap we had last year but I did notice a drop in Anna's after it had warmed up... I also seen more Anna's through the summer than i did Rufous hummers... Just before i took this photo, 2 females were sitting side by side feeding for awhile - no fighting this time which was strange.. Sandy

Fantastic! I did not realize we had that many Anna's in the Valley!!! And to think I had to 'get lucky' to see one at Lighthouse Park during a school field trip (of which the topic I do not remember...was a little distracted!)

Here is my set up for the flood lamps to keep the nectar thawed in the cold weather as Cliff was mentioning above. This little male decided not to go to far and defend his territory!

that seems like a very clever set-up for keeping the nectar thawed. I've never seen an Anna's and must confess my hummingbird feeder was brought indoors for the winter after all the Rufous Hummingbirds left.

Never have I until we went into Cliff's store and he had mentioned about the Anna's wintering here on the lower mainland....I left the feeders up and they have been here ever since.....

Hi Sandy How did your anna's make out this weekend? Did you have any more show up? Nice to see your pictures-Is it okay if I print them to show in the stores?
Thanks Cliff

Wow, I should stick up a feeder and see what happens. Even if the feeder is just 1/4 full just to see if any start coming.
Al, I bet you'd have a good chance where you are! Have you tried leaving your hummer feeder up after the Rufous Hummers have left?

Yes by all means Cliff, print them for the stores, I dont mind....They survived quite well this weekend and still have been busy this week during the warm weather at the beginning of the week and the cooler spell now..
Gord, i think you should try a feeder and see if the Anna's come..you might be surprised...
