There were 3 Cedar Waxwings on the corner of camp river road and willbourn road at 11:20 this morning. I will add the pictures I took once back home.

I just sat down and upload my pictures from this morning and saw they were Cedar Waxwings, not Bohemian Waxwings! I have to admit I assumed they were Bohemian being in the dead of winter, and didn't really consider Cedar Waxwings as an option. Cedar Waxwings usually show up around mid-May and leave around September. I am not sure what these 3 are doing here on January 5. Maybe they are friends with the Black Phoebe that was along the same slough farther west...?? Credit goes to my non-birding wife who spotted them and said, "There are some Cedar Waxwings." And I assumed they were Bohemian even though she correctly ID'd them. Tsk. Tsk.. I should mention that my wife considers herself a non-birder, but has quite the lifelist, if she had a list. She has come along for many good birds on many road trips and even the odd chase bird like the Red-flanked Bluetail that ran around at her feet while I was looking for it in the nearby woods. I remember it well..."Hey, Dave, what's this thing at my feet?" Then there was the Ivory Gull...."There's one that's only white, Dave.." Etc, etc

maybe the warmer winters here are effecting how some birds end up staying for the winter.

Interesting little story Dave. My wife too, emphatically denies that she is a birder, yet many a time over the years she has correctly identified and even found some rarity that I couldn't seem to see. Maybe it's the relative lack of interest that allows them to relax and just enjoy the little birds!
Nice find on the waxwings by the way.

Nice shots and good birds for this time of year, Dave! We love your story about your "non-birder" wife, is she available for rare bird tours? Cheers Bruce & Joanne
