Got to meet some of the folks attending the Field Naturalist conference in Harrison on Thursday. On Saturday, I met a bunch more that were on a tour around my place. Based on their info, I went out to check the beach in Harrison for Lapland Longspurs, no luck But saw 120 - 150 Am. Coots. A couple of Surf Scoters and Am. Widgeons. Then at the far end of the beach by Rendall Park. A Long-Tailed Duck ;D ;D ;D A new one for me It was a bit far away to say if it was male or female I will try to determine gender tomorrow.

Nice finds with the Long-tailed Duck and Surf Scoters as well. Very notable sightings! Keep an eye on that area. That's the place to find a Smew one day!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Also, there was a report a few years back about a possible McKay's Bunting in the area as well as a Wagtail species a year before that. I dont know how much that area gets birded but it needs more as the whole area is awesome. Then you can write a site guide about the areas with good vantage points. ;D ;D

I'll keep my eyes open and I'm bringing my bushnells to work. My office is in the Ranger Station Art Gallery and I'm overlooking the Yacht club and Rendall Beach. Life is Hard. This morning, the long tail & scoters are still out there with 2 Western grebes. I hope to get out there at lunch and take a look around.
P.S. Gord, yes I've already been thinking about site guides for the few places I do know well.
