I am posting these photos only to show size comparison between the bird I photographed on Friday and the rock pigeon that I photographed today on the same roof and same distance.

Hank it looks like a pigeon. It could be a large one...if it is not one, then as your bird book shows there isn't another bird that looks like this one, it is simply a mystery bird. Thanks for posting the pictures! Ed

I know this might sound strange but if the big bird in the photo is a pigeon that is at least 24 in tall could some have been giving it human growth hormones because that is the only way that it could get to that size.

Hank, it looks like a Rock Pigeon to me also. If you take the right side picture, expand it so the spacing of the shingles is the same as the left one, you will see the same size but erect bird. The left bird is more alert and looking for predators because it is out in the open. The right side birds are relaxed and hidden. They both have red eyes, same bill shape, and similar shape overall. The feather coloring on the body and neck of Rock Pigeons varies immensely, as a visit to most Greater Vancouver Parks will show. Sorry, but you will not convince me that it is anything but a Rock Pigeon.

Klaus, I am not trying to convince anybody of anything I saw the bird live and my photograph is an accurate reflection of it`s size it was at least two feet tall that is why I took the photos yesterday of the pigeons on the same roof and same distance so that we would get an accurate comparison of the two./ I am not denying it may be a rock pigeon only that it is not a normal pigeon.

Hank and everyone. We have debated this topic enough. Hank, you said lets agree to disagree and we will leave it at that. We have 8 or so people calling this a Rock Pigeon. On top of that, we have had numerous explanations as to why the Rock Pigeon in the left photo appears larger than it is.
