Me and my dad were walking down the trail at Cheam Lake Wetlands when we spotted a Solitary Sandpiper on an island of weeds on the lake. We went back to the parking lot and saw my dad's friends Mr and Mrs Grass. Me, my dad, my mom, Mr and Mrs Grass, Katie, and Jordy went back to the area where the Solitary Sandpiper was sighted. All of us except looked through the binoculars. We knew it was a Solitary Sandpiper because it had white "glasses" around its eyes, small white spots, and a short beak. Daddy didn't take any pictures . It was hard to see because it was small.
We were very lucky to see it. We also saw a male Belted Kingfisher near the floating walkway and a Merlin hunting dragonflies.

Very good sighting. Those Solitary Sandpipers really blend in.

Enjoyed our little walk and seeing the good birds. I was about 10 years old too when I first met Al and Jude Grass. Great naturalists.

Solitary Sandpipers can still be found at the lake and in the surround. Yesterday afternoon there were two in a little pond just south of the road one turns onto to get to Cheam Lake. I've often seen them there in the past.
