Hello birders,
I spent the morning looking for the Eastern Kingbirds reported by Stan, but to no avail, but there were a number of surprises along the way.
There was a huge flock of Barn Swallows (100s) and I was able to pick out one Bank Swallow and one Violet-Green. I saw, only my fourth record for BC, a Sora crossing the slough closest to the parking lot and there was one Horned Grebe in the main pond. The bird was already in its drab winter plumage. Also, there was still one Black-headed Grosbeak in the area and Lincoln's Sparrows were migrating in big numbers. Two flycatchers were noted, and one was very small, flipping its tail like crazy. The head on the bird looked too big for its body. (Least??) Below is a list of birds seen today.
Black-capped Chickadee American Coot Brown-headed Cowbird Northwestern Crow Ring-necked Duck House Finch Purple Finch American Goldfinch Canada Goose HORNED GREBE Pied-billed Grebe Black-headed Grosbeak Great Blue Heron Belted Kingfisher Mallard Northern Pintail American Robin SORA Lincoln's Sparrow Savannah Sparrow Song Sparrow European Starling BANK SWALLOW Barn Swallow Violet-green Swallow Green-winged Teal Yellow-rumped Warbler Cedar Waxwing American Wigeon Marsh Wren Common Yellowthroat
