This morning at Gibson Road and the highway was a subadult Golden Eagle. In the pond at Annis Road were a few lingering Northern Pintails and a Northern Shoveler. Later in the afternoon at Island 22 I saw a flock of about 14 Black Swifts feeding overhead with a small flock of Vaux's Swift. A minute or two later the flock started to move in a northeast direction in a fairly purpose direction and were closely followed by more Black Swifts. As they passed I was able to count a fairly astounding 47 Black Swifts. That may be my highest count ever for that species. Mosquitoes at Island 22 certainly have picked up. It's not too bad around the dyke, boat launch and etc but I imagine if one went into the trees it would not be that much fun.

Gord, nice sighting especially for late spring. Probably came down from the mountains.
I think the mosquitoes are on the early side this year. I seem to remember last year they peaked around mid July. Maybe this year they will peak sooner.

Chris, they are a bit early due to the earlier rise in the river. From consulting with people who are in the know, a peak in numbers is a week or so away. Might be lucky that mosquito season will be shorter leaving us in peace as fall migration starts.
