Today I went to participate in some banding at Iona, which involved getting up at a ridiculous hour to get there from Langley for 6:30. Despite my natural contempt for mornings, birding is one of the things that wills me out of bed and it paid off. I managed to see a barn owl along Ferguson Road (just north of YVR). It landed on the power line and I was able to get some good looks at it (although it was still quite dark). I didn't get any pictures unfortunately. The banding session was really interesting and something I hope to continue being involved in. We had to shut down early because of rain, but on my way home I managed to get some great looks at a northern shrike (which was a lifer yesterday with suboptimal views). This time I got a couple pics and here is one of them, I really like the fact that he/she was sitting on the barbed wire - it seems fitting: At home there was a bald eagle outside my bedroom window, which was a very nice treat! It's been a great weekend of birding so far! Hopefully the weather cooperates tomorrow and I can get out and survey Brydon in a bit more detail. It has been neglected for the past month because I was on holidays for 2.5 weeks!
