Howdy fellow birders. I did a trip to Delta this Saturday morning (Oct. 27) to see a few of the rarities to be found there. The Tropical Kingbird was still in the vacinity of 104 near the Boundary Bay dyke (Tropical! "What is it doing here in rainy BC? GPS broken?") At the Tsawassan Ferry Jetty I found the Rock Sandpiper in a large flock of Black Turnstones (eventually after much searching). Managed to alert two other birders to this rare shorebird. I also came across a Horned Lark in the process. Good birding everyone, in spite of the rain. John Vooys, Abbotsford.

John, unfortunately I was unable to turn some of the Red Crossbills into White-winged ones. Congatulations on the Rock Sandpiper, Tropical Kingbird, and H. Lark!

John, are those new ones for you or new for your BC list?
Both birds were again seen today. The Rock Sandpiper has been seen since Oct 16th. I wonder if there is the possibility it might winter there.

Hi Chris. No, these were not new for my ABA or BC list. Since 2006 I have only added 1 life bird in BC per year. This year it was Manx Shearwater. That one and two others were new for BC this year: Cassin's Auklet and Grasshopper Sparrow. Good birding. John Vooys, Abbotsford.
