Hello Birders There is a Black-headed Grosbeak, that a first saw today, visiting one of our feeders. Also heard several Sandhill Cranes, never could see them, approx. 10 Common Redpolls and one White-throated Sparrow. Jason

Jason, nice list of less than common birds there.
Was not long ago you had a Black-headed Grosbeak overwinter at your feeder. A male or female? Your second report of Common Redpolls may suggest another good year for them too.

Jason, nice sightings.
I read somewhere that this might be another good year for Redpolls again. I guess back east they are being seen in good numbers. Certainly something to watch for.

The grosbeak was a male; which I have not seen or heard since. Had 10 or so Sandhill Cranes again yesterday. Jason

Yes Chris, it was a flock of Redpolls I was stalking when I fell through the ice on the Little Souris River in Manitoba last Dec. Watch out - they can get nasty. Taliban tactics!
