Hey everyone,
I managed to get out during a lapse in the rain. I was intending to just go for a quick walk to the marsh and lagoon then head back but I ended up continuing onwards for a while. Unfortunately I forgot this was the west coast and the dry spell did not last long. I ended up getting fairly wet. However, extending my walk was quite worthwhile, giving me a few firsts of the fall. These included a flyover by cackling geese, ring-billed gulls, a couple bald eagles (which I hadn't seen in a couple months), chestnut-backed chickadees, and both species of kinglet. The ruby-crowned male was showing his crown much brighter than I have ever seen before, which was a nice treat. I was unable to get a photo unfortunately. Another first of the season was a couple pintails that I saw this morning from my window.
The only picture I was able to get because of the rain was this great blue heron, who was posing nicely on the lagoon.
I totalled 29 species over about 1-1.5 hours, which considering the blustery, rainy weather, I thought was pretty good.
