Took another group to Serpentine Fen this morning. Lots of bird activity there. Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs (maybe. Smaller than the Greaters) Long-billed Dowhitchers Northern Pintail Northern Shovelers Wood Duck (female) Canada Geese Mallards Great Blue Heron Yellow-rumped Warblers Northern Harrier House Sparrows NW Crows and this Belted Kingfisher

Bryan. I was walking with my UFV class along the canal at Serpentine Fen where all the fishermen are when someone spotted this fellow hovering above the far bank. I had just commented to my group to be ready with your camera by adjusting the manual exposure settings every time you walk into a new lighting situation. In this case, it was from shade to sunlight. So when the kingfisher was spotted, I was exposure ready and was able to get off 5 quick shots as it hovered, then it continued down the canal. He was a little far away but as the image was sharp I was able to enlarge it without it falling apart too much.
Nikon D7000, 300mm lens + 1.4 converter, tripod. ISO 250, f/7, 1/1250 sec.
