Boundary Bay is producing some rare shorebirds right now if anyone is interested.
There is a Buff-breasted Sandpiper on 72nd street in a turf farm.
In front of the mansion between 96th and 88th on the dyke, a couple of Stilt Sandpipers are being seen, a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper and a female Ruff.
Definitely go on a high tide if anyone is thinking about going.
Just goes to show that Boundary Bay is an important location for animals, and in particular, shorebirds.

Just to clarify what I wrote. All four species have been seen today by different observers.
The Ruff was seen last night and today. The Buff-breasted has been there since the 26th. The Sharp-tailed was found today. The Stilt Sandpipers have been in front of the mansion for a while but most likely different birds.
All four would be lifers for me and it is too bad they weren't there last week!

Here are some Stilt Sandpipers - from Reifel rather than Boundary Bay, but near enough? They're sure fun to watch, with their beaks drilling up and down like a sweat shop of industrial sewing machines.

Nice photo Bryan and Janet, thanks for sharing.
Im hoping I can make my annual pilgrimage to Boundary Bay and the surround this week. Will be fun and any of the neat birds that are still hanging around will be a bonus.
