I went for about a 1.5 hour walk today. Had some young white-crowned sparrows in my yard and my hummingbird feeder has FINALLY been busy with some young rufous humminbirds over the past couple weeks.
Here's one of them:
I picked up a new yard bird (#70) and Brydon bird (#98) with a black swift that flew over. Pretty cool considering this was a lifer for me last weekend at Grant Narrows!
Otherwise, a usual number of species were present - no green heron today unfortunately. At the eagle's nest today, one of the young was actually perched above the nest for the first time and there were TWO others in the nest! One was exercising its wings and will presumably be leaving the nest soon as well.
The kingfishers were busy again on the west end of the lagoon and they are always a pleasant treat to observe:
I've attached an audio file that I'm hoping is a Bewick's wren. It would be about time that I'm able to identify this species by song. I'll keep my fingers crossed until someone confirms the audio ID for me.
Here's my list for those that are interested:
Canada Goose 35
Gadwall 20
Mallard 40
Great Blue Heron 1
Bald Eagle 4
Cooper's Hawk 1
Killdeer 2
Black Swift 1
Rufous Hummingbird 2
Belted Kingfisher 2
Western Wood-Pewee 1
Willow Flycatcher 2
Pacific-slope Flycatcher 1
Northwestern Crow 10
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 4
Violet-green Swallow 8
Barn Swallow 7
Black-capped Chickadee 5
Brown Creeper 1
Bewick's Wren 1
Marsh Wren 8
Swainson's Thrush 2
American Robin 4
European Starling 7
Cedar Waxwing 3
Common Yellowthroat 7
Spotted Towhee 4
Song Sparrow 8
White-crowned Sparrow 2
Black-headed Grosbeak 1
Red-winged Blackbird 10
Brown-headed Cowbird 6
House Finch 8

Hope everyone is having a great long weekend!!!
