On my recent trip to Florida I came across this White Pelican in the Ten Thousand Islands marsh just south of Naples. Since the waters were still and the light was perfect, an opportunity for reflections presented itself. First - capturing the symmetry of the bird and its mirror image. Then, including the design of a rippling refection. It provided an ideal subject to play with photography. Using a tripod, I could keep my lends fixed on the bird without getting tired arms. Mr Pelican didn't disappoint. Here, its crouched down low in 'stealth mode'. I love it when the bird looks directly at me. Besides a strong feeling of communication, it provides another opportunity to play with symmetry. Don't be afraid to alter your photo shape. or zoom in close to capture patterns I also like to include habitat shots in a photo essay. I would have included interaction shots with a mate or other birds, but this encounter didn't have that opportunity. Next time maybe.
