Ever since my wife Liliane added a Lazuli Bunting to MY bucket list, I have added a few grey hairs to my already greyness up there. Most places where a LB has been sited and posted on here, I have been there, camera and tripod in hand. No luck. I have been hunting for six months now. I even hoped to find one in Florida last month. Nada. So ... I looked LB up in the "Birds of British Columbia and noted that it is found at Colony Farms, Port Coquitlam. About then, I saw Randy's post of a female. Nice! Hmmm Today Liliane had an appointment near there, and I was given 1 hr to photograph birds at Colony Farm. All that hour, I looked and looked. Nothing. I did get a lot of Cedar Waxwings though. On the way driving out to the hwy, I caught a movement in my eye high up in a tree on my left side. What the hay, you can never have enough waxwing shots, so I stopped, rolled down the window and fired off three quick shots. When I checked for exposure, I discovered that I had captured a Lazuli Bunting! Tried to get more shots, this time with a tripod but it disappeared. Dang. This one will have to do.

Haha, great story. Glad you got that off your bucket list! The area of Colony Farm where Rocky and I both had luck is the southernmost part - around that second parking lot on either side of Colony Farm road.
Hope you get to see some more, I would certainly love to!

That seems to be where I was - not far from the historic buildings and west of the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital entrance. Let me know when you are going there again. That place has all kinds of potential. I added it to my UFV Bird Photography course for next fall.

East of the psych hospital isn't it? Anyway, here's a map: www.metrovancouver.org/about/maps/Maps/Colonyfarmmap.pdfI saw them on the Garden Trail and the mid to southern portion of the Colony Farm Road trail. I will definitely let you know when I'm going there next, although the way my weekends are looking it probably won't be for a while That was the first time I was there though and overall I was quite impressed with the site.

On the Colony Farm Road where it prints "1.2km" is the spot where I saw my Bunting. Still let me know when you can get free. (kpugh@shaw.ca). I have the advantage of retirement where every day is a Saturday. I also plan to do Manning to Hope as well.

Meeting up with other members on here to do some photography is a nice idea. Appeals to me. Maybe Gord could suggest how such meetings could be posted on here.

Congrats on seeing and photographing the Lazuli Bunting. I too saw my first on my outing to Merritt with Chris. Very exciting, though the LB was too far away for a decent shot.
I love your idea re a photo outing, so I'll be checking to see what comes of that.
