Tough work week, looked forward to Saturday with no commitments, for a little birding adventure maybe? Bucketing in the morning as I got my coffee and scones with jam ready, and plunked into the lazyboy, pining for sunnier days. No birdin' today! Just have to sit here, mope, and watch the birds on the feeder. The one nice thing about a rainy day is that our feeders are more active. Started listing for fun and soon discovered that there were actually more great birds than I could hope to see on an average outing! I was warm and dry, only twenty feet from the action...still whining about not getting out. Feeder list in about an hour. Most species included both male and female and fledglings.
Downey Woodpeckers Northern Flickers Black-capped Chickadees Chestnut-backed Chickadees European Starlings (way too many fledglings) Red-winged Blackbirds Pine Siskin House Finch House Sparrow American Goldfinches White-crowned Sparrow Northwestern Crow Evening Grosbeaks Black-headed Grosbeaks Rufous Hummingbirds Cedar Waxwings w/ fledgling (first for our yard) Bewicks Wren (first for our yard)
Do I still have a right to complain...

Not a bad list for the yard Ian. I am amazed how much activity you can get in your backyard when you spend the time to watch and put out seed. It definetly helps when the weather is poor or you cannot get out.
