There is a Black-throated Sparrow at Hope Airport right now!! Rick Toochin found it at Jack Delair's feeder. You can find Jack's property at the end of Delair Road in the NW corner of the airport area. His driveway is the end of Delair Road. When you drive in and park by the picnic table with the fruit on it, there is a blue binder with some papers on the table. Jack would like you to write your name in this visitor log and record any species you see on his property. He is very welcoming to birders. Please respect his organic property and do not block his vehicles when you park on his driveway. The feeder is in the centre of his backyard near the house. Great find! A fallout of Black-throated Sparrows this year in SW British Columbia!

Dave thanks for posting it. Very good sighting for the valley.
These sightings of this species has been abnormally high this year. As a result, I checked Ebird for Washington coast. 2009, 2010 there were no sightings 2011 has one but so far this year there have been five. I wonder if something is causing a few individuals to move north.

I also found two of these guys yesterday at Pitt Lake. BTW, I'm in Maple Ridge, and so I'm not sure if this is in the right area for this forum. Am I allowed to post stuff I see in the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows area here?

Deon welcome to the site! Fantastic capture. Very sharp.
Like Dave said you sure can post that here. For rare birds outside of the local area(Eastern Fraser Valley) you can post them here (Rare Bird Section). If you want to make a report or share some pictures that isoutside of our local area then you can post it in "Aldergrove to Vancouver" section or the out of town section.

Deon, fantastic photo! Two is amazing as well. As if not already said well enough already, please do feel free to share on here as well if you like. It's fun to hear what's going on elsewhere.
Great find at Jacks as well; nicely done. Incredible how many of these birds have popped up in the last three weeks.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome guys. My house is right on the edge of Golden Ears PP, so I'm just outside of your area. I will post when I see interesting stuff in the Van to Aldergrove area. I'd like to pay your area (especially Hope airport) a visit soon. There seems to be a lot of action there lately!

Deon, I've seen your work on another site and have been very impressed. Looking forward to seeing more here.
Did you shoot the sparrows with your mirrorless or D7000?
The Hope Airport is a real enigma. It can drive you crazy with how little there is to see and then "Bingo" a super rarity pops up. Just have to keep going back I guess.

Murray, I Used the D7000 for the Sparrows. I use the mirrorless when I need extra "reach", and the light is good.

Gotcha, makes sense with the two times crop factor. Thanks.
