Rick Toochin found a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW at Hope Airport Wednesday evening!! It was still there late this afternoon. It likes to be on the gravel path along the chainlink fence in the NE corner of the airport. An awesome bird for this area!! Here are a few pictures from this evening. Hopefully it will be there tomorrow for others to see. It seemed pretty content there nibbling on the grass, but was a bit jumpy each time a car drove by. Caution, several Savannah Sparrows and a Vesper Sparrow were sharing the same path and area.

Wow, that is a fantastic sighting for our area. I might have to start paying more attention to those gravel stretches at the airport.
Nice work on getting great photos Dave!

Yesterday, (Thursday afternoon) Dale Jensen and I found the Grasshopper Sparrow in the same general area. We first found it sitting on the fence and then it flew into the tallish grass on the airport side of the fence. And yes, there are Savannah's around too. Good birding, John Vooys, Abbotsford

That's one of the better birds in the rarity department this spring, nice work Rick. Great documentary photos, Dave, capturing all angles. This guy is sure breaking the mold of what I understand is supposed to be a secretive species.
