The other day I was looking at a nature book with my 5 year old grandson and called a animal a Rabbit. He corrected me that it was a Hare (the caption did say Hare). Yesterday I took this picture: It looked large and the white around the eye matches the Easter Cottontail but the Snowshoe Hare is more wide spread. Help? DaveP

Looks to me like an eastern cottontail. It seems to have a bit of rufous tinge on the nape, typical of eastern cottontail, although this isn't as pronounced as I've usually seen them, but I've seen some where the rufous is hardly noticeable. Also the ears look a bit short for a snowshoe hare.
Assuming you took the photo locally.

Thanks Stan, it was taken at the Heron Reserve and it looked a little bigger then others I saw.
