Had a Red-naped Sapsucker banging away at the Mountain Ash in my back yard this morning. This is a first for my yard list and wonder how unusual it is to find one in this area. I'm in S. Langley. - Pat

Pat that is a very good sighting for your area! Red-naped Sapsuckers are typically found in the Okanagan. The farthest west I have seen one is at the lodge in Manning Park. I can't recall a sighting in the last few years where one was seen in the valley.

Nice Shot!
We saw one of these at the Alasksen Refuge in August a few years ago (Its on Westham Island next to the Reifel Refuge) so either we were both got lucky or they are becoming more common on the coast.
