Just letting you know that I ventured out in the cold and drizzle for a walk over to Eagle Point Park and was rewarded by hearing the song of the Marsh Wren ;D ;D ;D I managed to spot one and could hear at least two more, all in the area of the little bay by the viewing platform. It was in fact a pretty good day birdwise....here is my list of species
Robins - lots!
Varied Thrush - 2
Steller's Jay - could hear them mobbing something
Red Wing Blackbirds - flock of 70 or so
Bufflehead - there are LOTs of Bufflehead here right now
Common Goldeneye - don't recall ever having them in close before, they usually stay out in the river. There are quite a few.
Green Wing Teal - they were absent most of this week while water levels were really high but now it's back where it belongs there were 30 or more of them.
Mallards - a dozen or so...again they disappeared during the high water
Killdeer - saw 2 could also hear a 'shorebird' sort of call out on the emerging flats but couldn't see anything and not a good enough birder to just ID by ear.
Common Merganser - quite a few - they liked the high water
Eagles - 1 juv. in the 'eagle tree' and 2 adults on a log way out
Hooded Merganser - spotted one male
American Widgeon - two pair
Starling - they've been hanging around eyeing those martin boxes!
Raven - seem to have a resident pair, have seen them flying with twigs
Gold Crown Kinglets - the bush has been alive with them all week
Black Cap Chickadees - going over the bush with the Kinglets
Northern Harrier - one flying over the grassland
Pileated Woodpecker - I've been hearing one in the distance all week. Haven't been able to spot it.
Canada Geese - could hear in distance...yesterday there were a pair over at the park by the main bay.
The list doesn't include the regulars in the backyard, Juncos, Towhees, Song and Fox Sparrows, Northern Flickers, Chestnutback Chickadees
