This isn't a bird sighting but a water sighting It is unbelievable but in just over 24 hours the Chehalis Estuary has gone from barren sandbars reaching almost to the Harrison Bridge...to being completely under water. Water levels are way up into the grass and shrubs at the edges. It will be interesting to see how this reacts with migrating birds....we have never had high water at this time of the year before...with luck it will push them to the edges where we will see them better, or perhaps bring some different species like the Western Grebe I saw the one year we had freak high water levels in November. One thing for sure we don't need to worry about people walking out on the flats for a while! Think I'll be digging out the canoe and kayak as for the birds....there were at least a dozen Tree Swallows flying around this morning when I walked down for a quick look and I heard a flock of Geese...hadn't seen any of them for months.
