Hello fellow birders, decided to take a break from the reno (installing my flooring) and headed out to Richmond.
Got up before the crack of dawn, stopped at Timmy's and away I went, Checked the weather it was raining at the top of hill in Mission, but still decided to chance it. Got to Boundary Bay about 6:45am and was greeted with light showers.
I decided to drive up and down 96th and 84th while the rain was blowing through, clouds were visible on the horizon. Quite a few Bald Eagles around and a few ducks in the fields did see one E. Wigeon.
At the water were a few Killdeer and out in the bay was a cloud moving back and forth of about 1000 -2000 + either Dunlin I'm guessing or western Sandpipers, there could have been more.
I tried counting them, your welcome to try too.
With not much around and still raining a bit I headed to 76th, not as many ducks as normal in the fields on the way there ,have seen more. A small group of Mew gulls were there as well, and more Bald Eagles too.
Parked and headed out for a short walk, the rain was still spitting. The Snowys were still there looking rather drenched, it sure must be cold for them as I had my gloves on and my fingers tips would end up being almost frozen after an hour.
Out in the bay a few Bald Eagles and a couple of lone GYL. A few Harriers scoping out the boggy areas no SEO though.
With the weather looking a little better towards the west I dried off my camera equipment and headed off to Reifel, 3 Mute swans at the bridge to Westham Island, on the drive in a large flock of Snow Geese were coming in.
By the time I got to Reifel at 9:00 am, the rain had stopped and a tiny bit of sun was trying to make a show. Reifel,s a great place to get lost in or kill a few hours. Lots to see, all usual though about 36 species seen. The highlight of the day were the swallows, Gadwalls and Night Heron's in a different tree.
