Hi fellow birders. I checked out the marsh area by the gun-club since this is part of my team's area for the Abbotsford CBC. It was a bit slow going at first, likely due to all the gunfire going. on. However, among the many Song Sparrows and at least three Lincoln's Sparrows and one Junco, I found a Swamp Sparrow. It had more the typical features of an adult bird, quite unlike the one Gord photographed a while ago. This one had a more ruddy colour on it cap, distict face pattern, ruddy wings and tail and a prominant whitish throat. As Gord suggested, there may have been more than one such species in that marsh. Hope it/they stick around for the CBC on the 30th. Have a blessed Christmas, one and all, and good birding, John Vooys, Abbotsford.

Nice find John! I've been out several times to find one of these guys. Early this morning I went out again and after 25 minutes of Song Sparrows and Lincoln Sparrows, I heard a different sound...just a couple of times. As I moved back in that direction I saw just a fleeting glimpse as he popped out for 4 seconds. A less then great view, but enough to tell me I what I saw! Lifebird for me!

Ed, congrats on the new bird! John, almost sounds for certain there`s more than one there. Hope you can confirm that next week on the CBC! Merry Christmas to you as well.
