Hi all, I have a couple of friends who would like to add W.T. Ptarmigan to their B.C. lists. So I'm wondering if anyone has any information on the conditions on Mt. Cheam this summer. In years past, I have found them in mid August but with the strange weather conditions of late, who knows? I seem to recall some discussion of the road conditions in the past year or so and I'm also wondering about the amount of snow on the way up. If anyone has any current information it would be greatly appreciated.

Check out www.clubtread.comIf Cheam doesn't appear on the main page click on more recent posts and you should able to find something up-to-date about snow up there. Bryan

Hi Murray,
If your friends are interested, I probably will have time during the middle of next week to take them up Cheam or Needle for ptarmigan if they wanted someone to go with them. I do think that there is a better chance of ptarmigan up Needle considering the amount of hiking traffic Cheam probably has had already this year.
I am back in town Monday PM if you want to get in touch then.

There is a TON of snow still on Cheam. No ptarmigan reports of yet, but seems that there has been no shortage of dogs getting free roam of the area which probably does not do well for them. The late winter up there might not help either.
I was up Needle earlier this week (report to come). No ptarmigan either but less snow than Cheam.
I wonder if Lady Peak next to Cheam might not be better. Gets less traffic up there and might have more birds.

Thanks Dave and Gord. I will discuss this info with my friends and let them make the decision. If they decide they want to go Dave, I'll send you an email.
