Hi all Had to pick my son up at the ferry on Sat, so I decided to head out to Reifel in the morning. On the way out did see 8- Eurasian Doves, and 3- American Goldfinches first ones of the year for me. No GH Owls to report but the C Geese were nesting at least 8 separate nests. Saw most of the usual birds out there, decided to go round the inner ponds an low and behold came across the Sandhill Cranes. There was one on the path that seemed a little aggressive and I thought it was after seed, as I did not have any I hurriedly walked by. As I looked out over the pond I saw the other around the center island. When I looked closer I saw what looked like a large round brown rock, looked thru the bins and saw the egg, wow A little larger than I thought it would be. As I continued along the walk I came across the quiet nesting sign. Guess it would have been better if I had come that way instead. Did come across a YR Warbler and a few Rufous On the way back to the ferry stopped at the jetty a few Brants and Oystercatchers. The count for half the day was: 8- E. Doves 4-Harriers 3-A. Goldfinches 20-T. Swallows 100- Snow Geese 8- Greater White-fronted Geese 1 - Barn Swallow Sharp shinned Hawk Y R Warbler 8-GC Sparrow 6-WC Sparrow GC Kinglet RW Blackbirds (lots) 12-Wood Ducks 8-N- Shovlers 2- Rufous hummingbirds 2- Sandhill Cranes + 1 Egg 20-A.
