Hi all
headed out on the Nature Walk Dyke after work to see if I could see anything new.
Only a few minutes in and I came across a few GC Kinglets, they would not sit still for a pic though. Thats OK a pic last week at lunch on the Alouette Dyke but thats a different report.
Saw 3 baldies and there was about 50 or so T Swans huddled up against the islands out the wind.
About 3/4,s the way in I heard a small cheep below me down by the water. I stopped and backed tracked a few feet and waited a couple of minutes, out of the bush popped a Winter Wren.
I followed it up and across the Dyke for 15 mins but the only shot I got was below. One of many wren shots that I missed.
I continued around the corner to the tower and what look liked a Junco flew past me into the tree in front of me. All i saw was the black and white vertical strips. As I got closer and stared thruogh the brambles I saw a red head and black/ white back. It looked like a Downy or Hairy Woodpecker. But I could not get a proper ID as it flew away.
Not much else seen until I was almost back at the road, when I saw up the tree what looked like a couple of finches.
I looked through my lens and saw that they were Pine Grosbeaks. I took a few quick pics and waited they came down closer and closer. Quite tame and approachable, i was able to get a few nice shots, it was getting dark so I pushed up the ISO and shot at 1/100 and 1 /80.
I watched them for about 20 mins munching on tree buds.
i have put a few more pics in the rare bird post.
On the drive back up Neaves I some a Kestrel on the telephone wire having dinner.
