I've just discovered the Brydon lagoon in Langley. Surprised to find 5 canvasback ducks busy there Mar. 17 and 18. Are they frequent visitors?

I used to bird the Brydon Lagoon regularly and got to see a good variety of waterfowl, but I have to say I never saw any Canvasbacks there. Based on that I would say that your sighting is a good one.
Keep your eyes peeled for the Long-billed Dowitchers as well, as they were fairly regular late-winter visitors too.

Welcome to the site, lacummings.
Like Murray says, your sighting is good. Myself, it seems the only places I see Canvasback regularly is in bigger pieces of water such as the Fraser River, Harrison Lake and so forth. Smaller ponds such as at Brydon Lagoon dont seem to be their first choice but I did record one at Sardis Pond (small urban park) many years ago.

Yes, I have seen Canvasback at the Brydon Lagoon in the past. Great place to see a number of waterfowl. -Pat
