Work is over-rated so my wife and I went out after lunch yesterday and ended up at Boundary Bay to check it out. It was almost too easy as we found this Short-eared Owl posing up on the dyke. We carried on and ran into another SE Owl but couldn't get too close. We then spotted this Peregrin Falcon out on the flats... then this Harrier (quite far) out in the fields... then numerous RT Hawks, Eagles, and a few unidentified raptors. Worth skipping work for.

Great shots Ian. I was there Monday and couldn't get anywhere near that close. What lens are you using?

Len, I was using my 400 on a Canon 7D. I had to move back a bit so I could fit him in the frame...

I swear that Owls are like a gateway drug for birding. We got started back in 2006 when all the Snowy Owls were at Boundary Bay. We got a couple of great photos of them despite being handicapped with a Digital Rebel and cheap 300mm lens.
Fast forward to today and despite having a real birding lens and a super smart 5D we haven't been able to get anything close to that - its like we emit some sort of owl repellent now.
Incredible images - thanks for posting.
