Was at Reifel on the weekend, was hoping to post this report a bit sooner but have been a little busy
and haven't processed my photos until today.
Started out early and was waiting at the gate to get in.I had already seen:
RT Hawk
Bald eagle and young
Mute swan
Gb Heron
EC Doves
RW Blackbirds
starlings
Robins
Decided to head down the North Dyke First.
House sparrows, mallards and Swallows(Tree and barn)every where.
A few Chickadees in the trees, with the Cedar Waxwings. Spotted Towhees poking around the ground and
the odd Rufous Hummer on the flowers
Headed to the tower next on looked out to the lagoon a few shore birds mulled around,
one small one real close it was a Spotted Sandpiper. A little farther out was a lone G. Yellow legs.
Looked a little further out and this large flock of western sandpipers were doing an Snowbird Aeriel display.
It lasted about 30 seconds and as soon as they came they were gone. I went back to scanning the lagoon
and saw a few more. Greater, Lesser yellow legs and Short billed Dowicthers all together cool.
Headed around the outside Dyke and some Western Sandpipers were seen.
Well I don't think I could see any more shorebirds so I went to find the SACR and baby. I haven't been
in about 3 weeks, boy has it grown.
After watching it for a while I was treated to a flying lesson, COOOL.
It continued down the path by itself flapping it's wings, but no air time
It would have to been awesome to see it take off.
Well it was time to go, on the way out saw Pintails, GW teal and Woodducks.
Went over to the jetty for a quick stop. The tide was way out. saw what I thought was a large flock of gulls pulled out the binos and saw a dozen Caspian Terns mixed in.
Also along the shore was Brants and Oyster catchers, a little further out the shore and pools were dotted with
GB Herons and a lone common loon.
One quite stop to look at the colony of GBH I headed home.
