Hello birders,
I birded Island 22 RP today in hopes of relocating the Scarlet Tanager. No go on the tanager, but the place was hopping with migrants. I located three flocks of chickadees and within each were many migrants. I recorded 36 species and here are a few of the highlites.
Vaux's Swifts 50+ they were everywhere. Violet-green Swallow 5 late guys foraging over the river Warblers Black-throated Gray 10+ Orange-crowned 10+ Townsends 5+ Wilson's 2 Common Yellowthroat 1 Yellow-rumped many Vireos Warbling 6 Red-eyed 2 Immature Sharp-shinned Hawk Ruffed Grouse 2 Turkey Vulture many Downy Woodpecker I have never seen so many in a this small an area. I stopped counting at about 20!!
I made a quick run to Cheam but it was rather quiet. Here are the highlites.
Great Horned Owl 1 Western Tanager 1 Orange-crowned Warbler 1 Yellow-rumps 2
There was a grebe to far to ID. My best guess was a Horned Grebe.
Cheers, Brent Schmor Abbotsford
