Today was the first time in about 3 months that I was able to do, what had become a daily walk, across the grasslands over to Eagle Point park. The water has receded to the point that there was just one squishy section in the middle of the path. It was extremely quiet bird wise (not house construction wise ) Barn Swallows were the most predominant species, there were dozens flying low over the grasslands and the gravel bars that are starting to appear. Goldfinch were second in number, several small flocks flying around with vocal young - probably close to 2 doz. all together. Other than that only birds seen were: 1 very ragged raven 1 flycatcher (just got a glimpse so no clue as to ID) 1 young Towhee 1 Belted Kingfisher (on the piling with the martin boxes) heard 1 juv. Black Headed Grosbeak heard a couple of Cedar Waxwings out on the water there appeared to be quit a number of ducks, possibly several hundred, I think mainly mallards but could have been some am. Widgeon as well - hadn't taken my best binoculars with me - and that was about it. At least it is nice to know that I can resume my daily wandering and hopefully things will get more interesting soon. Noticed that the Spotted Sandpipers that had been there all summer were no were to be seen so guess they have moved on. Kathy
