On my way to work, I pulled over to view a small flock of gulls flying into a field on Evans Rd. No slaty-backed gulls yet ;D ; just glaucous-winged, some hybrids and one mew gull.
Out in Agassiz stopped to check a larger flock of about 75 birds that had about 3 glaucous-winged and hybirds to each one mew gull.
Talking with Jason and he said he's noticed an increase down in the fields in east Chilliwack too. I think Kathy noticed the gulls out in Harrison Mills over a week ago too.
Wonder what cool gull will be found this year?

Gord: My candidates for " cool new gulls" for this winter: 1) Iceland- two have already been reported in the province 2) Lesser Black Backed- seem to show up every year around Vernon 3) Black Tailed- found in Washington, so why not here? And then there are the real exotics!!! Thor

I'd get out of bed for a black tailed gull! Good predictions, Thor. Im keen to find or hear of someone finding one of those mentioned or one even more exciting! Maybe if we got some rain, the fields would be more appealing for the gulls...

The rain last night moistened the fields much to the gull's delight. A good sized flock was in the field at the Chilliwack Airport this morning.
Looking forward to picking through the flocks!!
