Drove through Greendale this morning on my way in and saw a small flock of Black-bellied Plovers on Hopedale Road south of Adams. I probably would have missed them had I not heard one call out. There was at least four but I think there were more behind a fold in the ground as heads were popping up and down.
Later this morning on Prairie Central near Banford Road were a further 13 Black-bellied Plovers looking sharp in breeding colours.
Maybe more shorebirds will show up now. They have a way of finding each other and often there's more than one species in a group.
Pics later.

Trudi, very well could have been them. Kev, can't wait! Pictures. The other two plovers were too far away that I couldnt keep them in the crop. There were lots of Band Eagles. There must have been 50 in a 1km stretch of Prairie Central. I sort of like the colours of this one. (thus a bit bigger size, hope it does not cause display problems for others)

I just got back from that area and there are seven Black-bellied Plovers on the north side of Gibson road just after you come across the overpass.
One thing I should add is that a scope would be best to observe these birds as they are quite far out there.

Chris, right on and good eyes! I was not sure how many there were as my scope is not like yours but I guess it is not too bad as I got seven as well first thing this morning.

Gord Great shots, I'm jealeous on the plovers. the eagle shot has perfect lighting. Remember it's not the size of your scope that counts, it's how you use it.

Just realized that my report of plovers on Gibson was not correct. I saw the ones on April 12 on Banford Road just north of the tracks (so north also of the highway). Not sure why I didnt clue in when Chris said his were just over the overpass. Anyway, today there were eight of them on Banford but it is hard to count for certain due to distance and that the ground was not level where they were.

I should have added that they are on the east side. They were mixed in with gulls.
