On Thursday my wife, Ken P and myself went up to Hope to get a few pictures of the Mtn Bluebirds. Ken has posted some of his pictures and I will post some of my also but in the context of sharpness. When we arrived we we followed the track side of the airport and found some of them on the airport side of the road. We stayed in the car and I got this shot hand held shot: The picture was taken at 1/1000 f5.6 with an ISO 800 and the lens was set at 250 mm (400 on my camera). A cropped picture is: This is an okay picture but a little a little soft with ISO noise. The next picture was taken on a tripod with a cable release and my hand on the camera as a brace. The bird has a little more light on it and is much farther away. The image was taken at 1/1000 f6.3 at the same 250mm but the ISO was 200. A cropped image is: This is a usable image considering how much it is cropped. No ISO noise to reduce sharpness. Ken's list of 20 works but it would help if we could get the birds to land closer to us. DaveP

Agreed. There is a great difference between the two examples Dave. My preference for ISO if the bird is not moving is now ISO 200. Nice images. I like them both!
Did I not have that as 21 - teach the bird to come close?
