I was walking to school the other day (a rare occurance) and saw a Lazuli Bunting singing from a power line in Popkum. It jumped into the scattered bushes/wild stuff that is growing in the fallow/fill area between Wildcat Grill and Caryks Road. At 7am, there was a lot of singing coming from that area, and I didn't have time to spend studying it. I think it would be an interesting "new" spot to study.
My wife and I are leaving this week for a 2-month road trip to visit family out east, so "DB" will be quiet for quite a while. We plan to do some birding here and there, as well as check out some areas along the Atlantic coast of Canada. I am counting on plenty of "life" birds!
Have a good summer

Good sighting Dave! I know that area you mean, but have never looked closely at it.
Look forward to your return and to hear about your trip and see some pictures! Have fun!

Dave: Nice sighting on the Lazuli. Off immediate topic, and, if you are from the Atlantic area, this will seem redundant. I lived in N.S. for 10 yers, and Nfld/Labrador for 5. I was not into birding then, ( very unfortunate ), but my girlfriend was, and I remeber going on some road trips. Recommended sites: Bay of Fundy; great for fall shorebird migration. 2) Brier Island- on the tip of Digby neck. They run pelagic, and whale watching tours from there. 3) South Shore-from Halifax to Yarmouth. Good for shorebirding, and some rarities that seem to like some of the offshore islands. 4) Nfld-great birding with the highlight being Cape St Mary's. To sit on the edge of the cliff and look at the off shore seastack with thousands of Gannets, Murres, Razorbills, and Guillemots has to be one of the great birding spectacles in Canada Have a great trip.
