Went with the little guy for a drive up Chilliwack River Valley. We stopped and went for a short walk up by the turn-off to Foley Lake. It was a slow and noisy business as ants and pinecones are more exciting then much anything else. We had fun though, and he did work on his warbler neck a little bit as well. Out walk was good though, and we scored an full adult American redstart! It sang twice and gave a brief look. As customary, any response to pishing for a closer look/pictures went ignored. Usually, Am redstarts are rather easy, even for me. Other birds we saw were: (in no order) Western tanager male (great views! Sat there for several minutes) White-crowed sparrow Warbling Vireo Red-eyed vireo Rufous hummingbird Hammond's flycatcher MacGillvray's warbler (at least 3) Yellow warbler Winter wren Spotted towhee Chestnut-backed chickadee Black-capped chickadee Red-breasted sapsucker (2, plus one that flew across the road down by Allison Pool) Am. Goldfinch Swainson's thrush Am. Robin Black-headed grosbeak Fun to get out with the little guy, and good to get a little bonus birding in.
