The Birding Cheam Lake Wetlands event went well today. Close to 25 people went for a birding walk lead by Thor Manson. I enjoyed birding with some new and enthusiastic people. I was especially impressed by several young birders who came along and were very interested and keen. Thanks to Kelly Pearce from Hope Mountain School for organizing the event and to Thor for a great walk!
Here is a list of birds seen/heard by the group:
Pied-billed grebe Canada goose Wood duck Mallard Osprey (A pair on a nest) Bald eagle Peregrine falcon Vaux's swift Rufous hummingbird Red-breasted sapsucker Northern flicker Western wood-pewee Willow flycatcher Eastern kingbird (at least 6 birds) Warbling vireo Red-eyed vireo Steller's jay Northwestern crow Common raven Tree swallow Barn swallow Black-capped chickadee Chestnut-backed chickadee Winter wren Marsh wren Swainson's thrush American robin European starling Cedar waxwing Yellow warbler Black-throated grey warbler Common yellowthroat Western tanager (at least 4) Spotted towhee Song sparrow Black-headed grosbeak Red-winged blackbird Brown-headed cowbird Bullock's oriole House finch American goldfinch
A total of 41 species! Good work everyone!

I am totally impressed! Would have loved to have gone for the trek/walk/watch. I am away a lot but would/will keep a better watch for up-coming events of this sort--appreciate a "heads-up" thanks --Al
