An excursion to Downes Bowl - the only real birding mecca within my limited, carless range, which is why I am there so often - this morning yielded some interesting birds. Although my purpose was more to get that cardiovascular system going with a light jog, I am a birder, and birders don't just jog past a promising habitat or intriguing call wafting down from the canopy.
On the descent to Downes Creek, a Red-breasted Sapsucker nest in an old, bracket fungus infested birch. Couldn't really miss it due to the racket the nestlings were making.
At the swamp, a Green Heron was visible from the boardwalk. Also a Willow Flycatcher, not to mention a beaver, mallard ducklings, and goslings.
Later, in another decaying birch, a Downy Woodpecker nest.
That's all folks!
