Took a spin up to see how the snow's melting. Made it about 1km from the parking lot before we hit snow. Strapped on the snowshoes and continued on to Sthingy Valley for a look. Birds we saw and/or heard included: (in no particular order)
Blue grouse Ruffed grouse Am robin Hermit thrush (several) Varied thrush Swainson 's thrush Grey jay (2) Chestnut-backed chickadee Black-capped chickadee Yellow-rumped warbler MacGillvray's warbler Dark-eyed junco Fox sparrow Olive-sided flycatcher Warbling vireo Winter wren
On the way back down in the truck, we came across a mountain beaver busy chopping down a Colt's foot (?) stalk and running across the road with it. Cute little guy! Not often have I seen them. Also a bear was seen, with lots of sign as well. Be aware up there and everywhere!
Edit: I forgot to mention the rufous hummingbird
